The old slow poke relaxing on a bed in a Roanoke, Virginia hotel room with Prissy, the Kelty red external frame backpack I loved so much.
Since I had gone to the eclipse on April 8th, I didn’t get to the Appalachian Trail until the very tail end of the bubble was heading out. For that and a plethera of excuses I shan’t enumerate here, I realized I just wasn’t going to make it to … Katahdin before winter closing.
I had to make a decision whether to continue further north, or go ahead and leave the trail when it was near a convenient Amtrak location. Even though it would still be early, I decided to fast forward from Roanoke so I would have plenty of time for the Hundred Miles Wilderness and Katahdin.
