After leaving Massachusetts I’m on the road to Providence but in no hurry to pass up a McDonald’s.
Cool Roadster Too continues to evolve as I gear up along the way. Since I hadn’t bike packed before, other than the trip to Cape Girardeau, I wasn’t sure exactly what I would want to add and figuring it out when I get there has proven effective if a little difficult logistically.
I’ve added front paniers to accommodate cooler weather requiring warmer, heavier clothes and whatever else I might need. The addition of a handle bar extender and duffle provided a way to mount my solar panel which I thought would still need some more hardware – it didn’t!
Although solar has it’s own caveats this system has already proven to work very well when there’s plenty of sun and you’re out on the open road rather than a dusty tree lined trail. But of course, there’s always McDonald’s.
The weather on my adventure since leaving out on March 27, has been barely short of perfect. In nearly six months riding a bike and hiking more than 2000 miles total, I don’t think I’ve had a two day rain more than once, much less a week or two. And, only three or four days (on the AT) when I got a pretty good one day soaking. Temps have been mild the entire time as I moved further north for summer. (Spoiler: two days of rain forecasted later this week.)
My adventure hasn’t been perfect but it couldn’t have been much better so far. Now, on to Key West!
